Fort Monroe ‘neighbors’ help save life of Phoebus car crash victim
It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child. Recently, it was proven that it can take a small army to save a child’s life. When a violent accident caused Kaylee Maldonado to be ejected from her mother’s vehicle while traveling in Phoebus, an estimated 10 people stopped to assist the family.

Those who often fly on commercial airplanes can probably parrot attendants as they convey safety precautions prior to liftoff. Passengers are told, for example, in the event the cabin loses pressure and oxygen masks are deployed, they should secure their mask in place and ensure they are getting oxygen before attempting to assist others.

 

Clinic Commander, dietician links ‘Five Pillars of Resiliency’
Fort Monroe formed the Civilian Health and Resiliency Program for DoD civilians earlier this year. This program models the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program in structure and its goal of keeping workers healthy by tending to five core pillars. The pillars are spiritual, mental, physical, family and social. Each element is holistically dependent upon the next to create a whole body, mind and spiritual health to maximize a person’s ability to rebound from difficult situations, or be resilient. The goal of CHRP is to meet or exceed the U.S. Army’s expectations for its civilian workforce.

 

Registration opens for 2010 military services Wilderness Challenge
Registration is open for the Mid-Atlantic Region, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department’s 10th annual all-military Wilderness Challenge. The Challenge will take place Oct. 7 to 9 in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and on the New and Gauley Rivers in West Virginia. The event is hosted and co-organized by ACE Adventure Resort, West Virginia’s largest outdoor outfitter.
