Bright Becomes President of Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia
Linda M Bright, MA MS, is a well known business woman who had served on the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia (EFVA) Board since 2004. Her passion has been to improve awareness about epilepsy. In her time as a Board member, she has organized outreach to 10,000 African Americans about epilepsy and trained 300 African American community leaders about the disorder.
Epilepsy rarely is discussed in the African American community, yet more than 350,000 African Americans have epilepsy nationwide, and nearly 24,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
Linda also organized four awareness strolls and has been a major advocate. Her goal is to have at least 10 percent in South Hampton Roads become familiar with the basics of epilepsy and she is a tireless health educator. “I am very enthusiastic with Linda’s accomplishments” said retired Navy Capt. Rita A. Laraway from Norfolk, a prominent Board member of the EFVA. “She is a driving force in South Hampton Roads.”
