Fisher House Provides Home Away from Home

The Fisher House is a beautiful, warm and inviting home with a very special mission: to help service military families through life-threatening crises.

Very sick or injured patients at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth need their families nearby. For those who live far away, Fisher House provides a stable, comfortable and low cost haven. The Fisher House is a “home away from home”.

All of the comforts of home are provided at Fisher House . . . a place to sleep, a place to rest during the day, prepare meals, launder clothes, and a place where children can lead relatively normal daily lives during their stay away from home. By keeping family units together, it is hoped that they may find the inner strength and spirit to move forward from a period of overwhelming stress.

Families who stay at the Fisher House are encouraged to interact and help each other. Experiences can be shared which will facilitate the emotional recovery of families. Group support activities promoting socialization at Fisher House are also provided.

The rooms are furnished with two double beds or a queen bed, private bath, telephone, DVD players and cable television.

To support the Fisher House at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, designate CFC #54480.
