ADD/ADHD
Parents are invited to attend this two-day course featuring Dr. Thomas Phelan, an internationally-renowned expert and lecturer on child discipline and ADD/ADHD. The father of a child with ADD, Phelan provides information, tools and emotional support in a DVD that will be used during the course. Participants who complete the course will receive a copy of his book “All About Attention Deficit Disorder.” The course takes place April 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Pre-registration is required.
Scream-Free Parenting
Raise your kids and keep your cool with this revolutionary approach to parenting. Classes are based on the book “Screamfree Parenting” by Hal Runkel, a licensed marriage and family therapist. This 12-week class meets again on Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring their lunch.
Winning the Money Game
“Winning the Money Game” is designed for either those new to the world of money management or those who want to learn “tricks of the trade” from a certified financial counselor. The workshop meets Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Marketing for a Second Career
It’s a highly competitive market and this is the chance to get the edge on reinventing your professional self. “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” will be held Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Anger Management
The Fort Monroe ACS Family Advocacy will present a three-part training on anger management skills on the third Monday of each month, beginning this month. The class focuses on positive methods of coping with anger. The first class will be held on April 19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Celebrity Luncheon
Members of the Fort Monroe community are invited to volunteer for the Celebrity Luncheon on April 14 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hampton Holiday Inn. ACS and the Hampton Child Protection Team are co-sponsoring the luncheon in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. All service branches and government agencies are welcome. The event will also include a silent auction. Donated items are needed for that portion of the program as well. Fordetails, contact the ACS staff.
Retirement Planning/TSP
Prospective retirees are invited to a class that focuses on retirement preparation strategies and the government Thrift Savings Plan. Topics of discussion will include basic savings and investment strategies and an overview of the TSP account management options. The class will take place April 27 from 9 to 11:30 p.m. Those interested in participating are asked to sign up in advance.
Boots n’ Booties
The next Boots n’ Booties Class for new and expectant parents is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 28. Subjects that will be addressed include infant growth and development, budgeting for baby, child care options, parenting skills, car seat installation and much more. Each participant will receive a free layette at the end of the class. The program is open to active-duty service members, family members, DA civilians and military retirees.
